I can’t sleep tonight so I dug out my beginner practice squares that I’d always planned on seaming together for a blanket for Warm Up America. Oh, dear.

That’s not to say I’m a great (or even good) knitter now, but compared to a year ago? I see the progress.

This is actually the first time I’ve thrown yarn, much less knitting, away. I usually save it for stuffing. If it was wool I’d felt it, but, alas, it’s acrylic. And I do think sometimes, very occasionally (says the greenie in me), it just needs to go. There’s nothing wrong with the fact that I was learning, or the fact that they’re a wreck. I actually keep my awful first socks in plain view in the bedroom and have affectionate feelings for them. But it still feels good to say, I was there, and now I can do better.

I will get back to charity knitting, though (this time without the gaping holes!). I was doing an hour a morning as a meditation ritual and then I got stuck in the Christmas knitting (and anniversary knitting… and bday knitting… and vday knitting) time crunch and out of the habit. I might not go back to an hour, but I do want to make an effort to do some daily.
